Delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium Represented By: Jawad Islam Topic 1: Communicable Diseases The issue of communicable diseases is of high importance to the Kingdom of Belgium and should be considered with upmost priority in the council today. The refugee population in Africa and Asia in particular are the hardest hit. Of the 105 countries afflicted by the scourge of diseases,45 are in Africa. It is first and foremost a human tragedy, causing more than 800,000 deaths each year. It is the leading cause of death among young children in sub-Saharan Africa. But the consequences of this epidemic go well beyond that; it is a handicap for the development and stability of the continent. . The Kingdom of Belgium truly regrets these facts and offers its deepest condolences to the countries and individuals who are affected. The Kingdom of Belgium applauds and congratulates the steps taken by countries and NGO’s to eradicate malaria as well as other diseases such as AID’s and more importantly Tuberculosis (TB) from these affected
