The first samples of the new species described in this article
were collected from the Bas¸ıbu
¨k district of Maltepe/
stanbul in 1995 by the author. However, it could not be
established as a new species until the flora list of the
¨k district was finished. The flora of this district,
despite being only a small part of I
stanbul city, consists of
532 taxa including 11 endemic species. Floras of the
neighbouring countries (Hala
´csy 1904, Hayek 1927,
Komarov 1936, Rechinger and Schiman-Czeika 1968,
Meikle 1985, Akeroyd 1986, Snogerup and Snogerup
1997) have been checked as well as specimens from
numerous herbaria to ascertain that the species described
here is really new to science.
