Company Q needs to strive to improve its attitude toward social responsibility. Social responsibility can be defined loosely as a company’s responsibility to the environment and its patrons as well as to its own bottom line. Plainly stated a socially responsible company seeks to make a positive impact on the environment and community around it while maintaining profitability. Some areas that company Q needs to improve are noncoerciveness, sustainability, philanthropy, and community relations. After years of requests from customers, Company Q stores have started offering a very limited amount of health-conscience and organic products—all of which were high margin items. This does not meet the company’s social responsibility of noncoerciveness. Though they now offer organic products they are still failing to meet their ethical responsibility of non coerciveness to their customers because their small selection limits their customers’ choices.
