INSIDE CRIMINIAL LAW 2 Inside criminal law The purposes of criminal law are to protect and serve. The two main functions of the criminal law system is one to show public morality, which is when the public determines the law for which the community deems to be right or wrong. The next in the criminal law system is teaching social boundaries this is when a criminal is punished to teach a lesson that society will not tolerate the behavior. By punishing a criminal this shows the community that making this type of mistake and by breaking the law will have consequences to the actions. Basically to keep “social order and stability” basically needing to keep society safe and maintain orderly conduct within the community. (Lippmann, 2006) Written sources of the American criminal law there are four main sources 1.Case Law is the basic term for legal principles “developed by judges” in determining legal disputes and is recorded in judicial decisions or judgments, and often is referred to as common law or the law of the judges 2. Administrative law the rules, orders, decisions of regulatory agencies (Wadsworth,
