As always, old exams are posted on Chem 165 web site (click on Exams in WebCT) – note that previous courses may have moved through the material in a different order, so be aware that these old exams might have questions about material that we have not covered. Chapter 15: Acids and Bases Concepts/Vocabulary from Chapter 15: Arhenius acids and bases; Brønsted acids and bases; conjugate acid-base pairs; amphiptrotic; ion-product constant; hydronium and hydroxide ions; pH and pOH scales; basic, neutral and acidic solutions; strength of acids/bases; acid ionization constant; percent ionization; base ionization constant; monoprotic, diprotic and polyprotic acids; hydrohalic acids and oxoacids. Concepts you should be able to explain and/or apply as well as use equations given in parenthesis (an equation sheet will be attached to the exam) from Chapter 15: (NOTE: suggested and example problems sorted by topic are shown in blue) Identification of Brønsted acids and bases. Identification of conjugate acid-base pairs.
