1.1 Chapter 13 Static Force Analysis of Mechanisms 13.1 Introduction Conditions: (1) Mechanisms deliver forces or components subject to loads; (2) Motion is slow or inertial forces can be neglected. Motivations: (1) Conversion of kinematic designs into physical mechanism design requires consideration of loads on components; (2) For safety purposes, component stress or deflection analyses are required under critical situations. Methods: (1) The basis of all static analysis is Newton’s third law; (2) Static equilibrium equations should be generated; (3) Free-body diagram method is a useful tool.
