Study Abroad Assignment # 2 Post Title IX There has been real growth in the number of women who participate in sports. They receive more scholarships and more benefits with increased budgets in athletic departments. Women have more opportunities to compete at elite levels through competitions like the Olympics, World Championships and professional leagues. More importantly, we know that playing sports makes women healthier. The survey proposal was absolutely absurd. The survey proposed that women had less interest in sports. Many opportunities given to women by title IX gave them more reason to be interested in sports. Prior to title IX only 1 in 27 women participated in high school sports. Today, 1 in 2.5 women participate in high school sports. Nancy Hogshead-Makar spoke out against the survey proving her case with her life experience. Title IX helped to improve her life, giving her the opportunity to swim in college. She was able to take classes that sparked her interest and not be forced to take specific classes. Many girls experience many of the same opportunities, which will completely disprove the survey’s validity. ( Hogshead-Makar)
