What to learn in this class. i) A few models (these models help us understand the physical world). ii) The courage and patience to analyze a complicated set of systems using a simple model (to find the answers rather than know the answers). What not to learn in this class. The answers . Don’t try to remember everything that I say or everything that your TA says. Instead, try to work at analyzing problems the way that we do. How to learn Don’t remember things . Think and ask questions about problems and ideas so that you understand them thoroughly. In new situations always look for indicators that help you figure out how to apply the models. Eventually these analysis skills become simply a part of the way that you view the world. You shouldn’t have to remember to analyze problems or what the indicators are; just like you don’t have to remember that the earth is round or that the earth travels around the sun in one year.
