In searching for perspective employers of persons in the field of accounting, I discovered some facts, qualifications and requirements that I did not know beforehand. I live in Jacksonville, Florida and I found quite a few listings when I located job postings for the accounting industry. The first post I read was for a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a firm here in Jacksonville. The educational requirements included: having passed the CPA exam, which requires meeting a certain criteria. The State of Florida requires 120 semester hours or 160 quarter hours to take the test and pass all four parts fulfilling 150 semester hours or 200 quarter hours within 3 years to obtain CPA license. The applicants must also have one year work experience under the supervision of a licensed CPA. Additional education required is 36 semester or 54 quarter hours of upper division accounting hours. This includes taxation, auditing, financial, cost/managerial and accounting info systems.
