Characteristics of Orientalism, Prejudice, and Discrimination The differences between Muslims and Arabs are often misguided and misunderstood. Arabs are an ethnic group or race. The name Arab often times refers to a cultural base or language. It is commonly mistaken that Arabs and Muslims are the turban wearers and both are discriminated against in society. Arabs originate from the Middle East and parts of North Africa. Arabs are people that speak Arabic as their primary language and are not all Muslims. Most Arabs are of Muslim devout but Arabs are a rather diverse group, as well. Muslims are followers of the Islamic religion. Muslims exist in all parts of the world and anyone who desires to follow the strict submission and acceptance of the Islam religion can become a Muslim. Muslims live a very spiritual life and are dedicated to Islamic principles. With such policies and department developments in the United States being enacted after 9/11, an increase in Muslim and Arab discrimination and bias has risen. With the
