Herrin 2 The purpose of the lab was to learn to use several fundamental dimensional measurement devices and to demonstrate that measurement is variable. This variability results from different people taking the measurements and the equipment or methods being used. Description of Tools The tools used in this lab were manual and digital dial calipers, manual and digital micrometers, height gage, and a CMM. The devices were used to measure the part shown in Figure 1. Figure 1 Procedure The measured features and the instruments used to take the measurements are outlined in Table 1. Feature Measurement Spherical Diameter Using a Dial Caliper, measure the diameter of the spherical feature at the waist. Using 2-3" micrometer, measure the same diameter Flange (Base) Diameter Using a Dial Caliper, measure the diameter of the Flange. Using 2-3" micrometer, measure the same diameter Flange Height Measure the flange height using o Dial Caliper o Micrometer o Height stand Stem Diameter (just above flange)
