Unformatted text preview: Jau-Ann David Tsai 24 Sep 2010 ENGL 101-036 Sheryl Simons Week 1 My First Research Paper The most significant work I have done in my lifetime was a 3000 word extended essay focused on the subject of biology. It was required as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which I was a part of. The extended essay required students to write a research paper on one of the many subjects set forth by IB. I chose biology because I was, and still am, extremely interested in the subject. After choosing the subject, students had free range on what topic they wished to research. Biology, like any other disciplines, has an immense number of topics. There are cells, ecology, genetics, evolution, etc, all of which are fascinating. Therefore it was difficult for me to choose just one topic to research. However, as the deadline for choosing the topic approached, I forced myself narrow down the choices I picked in the previous weeks. I looked at the sources I found for each topic.
