Types of cardiovascular disease a. atherosclerosis - Thickening and hardening of arteries - It is characterized by deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, cellular waste products and fibrin in the inner lining of an artery. - inflammatory risks : Chlamydia pneumoniae, Helicobacter pylori, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, elevated low density lipoprotein, free radical caused by cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and amino acid homocysteine - prevention and treatment : regular exercise, weight reduction and control, smoking cessation, moderation of alcohol intake. b. coronary heart disease - myocardial infarction or heart attack - normal bllod supply has been blocked, and heart suffers permanent damage. - sudden death
