Bio 230 Introduction to the Technology Business INTRODUCTION “Mushrooming from a small group of researchers, in less than thirty years biotechnology in the Bay Area has grown to over 800 companies, employing 85,000 people, generating $4.7 billion in revenue and over $2 billion in exports annually.” Of all the many biotech companies in the Bay Area, Genentech (now part of Roche) is the largest, Chiron is second, Bayer is third, with about 3000, 2000, 1000 employees, respectively in the Bay Area (and many more employees worldwide). The majority of biotech companies employ fewer than 50 people. PROCEDURES PART I: UNREHEARSED INDIVIDUAL THOUGHTS Step 1. Pretend you are taking an exam.
