The use of gravity and vacuum filtrations. Determine the melting point of the solid alum. Procedure/Observation: 2Al (s) + 2KOH (aq) + 4 H 2 SO 4(aq) + 22H 2 O (l) KAl(SO 4 ) 2 . 12H 2 O (s) +3H 2(g) • The aluminum can pieces weights 1.307 grams • 66 ml of KOH was added to the beaker containing the pieces of aluminum • Mix the two components and heat up on the hot plate. Observations: 1. black liquid started to form 2. White bubbles formed, as the heating process continues, bubbles started to gradually disappear. 3. Hydrogen gas escaped from the container. 4. An approximate of 30 minutes was needed for all the alum inum pieces to become softened and dissolved. • Pu rify the mixture using gravity filt rat ion Observation: 1. The purified liquid if clear • Add 6.6 ml of H2SO4 to the purified liquid....
