Ben Holloway October 13, 2010 ArcelorMittal Gent Case Study 1. How did ArcelorMittal us EDI? They used EDI to monitor the shipping cycle and to transmit information between the supplier, customers and warehouses. The information being transferred was related to the goods to be delivered to the customers, shipment and the receipt of the goods. Once ArcelorMittal set up its own IT team, they were able to change their set of EDI standards. This new set of standards allowed full integration of the supply information flow between the customers, warehouses and ArcelorMittal’s mainframes. 2. What were some of the challenges with using EDI? Implementation and maintenance of EDI systems are costly because it usually requires setting up an internal IT team. This prevented small clients and warehouses from adopting EDI. 3.
