Chapter 1 Chemical Foundation 1.1 Chemistry: An Overview: Chemistry is fundamentally concerned with how one substance changes to another. Two Fundamental Concepts of Chemistry : 1. Matter is composed of various types of atoms e. g: water H 2 O O H | H 2. One substance changes to another by reorganizing the way the atoms are attached to each other spark e. g: O 2 + 2H 2 2H 2 O Process for Understanding Nature and its Changes : Scientific Method : 1. Observation 2. Hypothesis 3. Experiment
