Unformatted text preview: MEASUREMENT AND DATA TREATMENT EXPERIMENT 30 By GROUP T12 Middle East Technical University Chemical Engineering Department ChE 320 Chemical Engineering Laboratory I Submitted By : Ardit CON KU Tu e ENER Gke EZERO LU Submitted To: Dr. Yusuf ULUDA Experiment Performed: April 20, 2010 Report Submitted: April 27, 2010 ABSTRACT The aim of the experiment Measurement and Data Treatment is to study the evaluation of the quality of the measurements statistically. The results are compared with the actual values and data evaluation is done. In the first part of the experiment,1 gram weight is weighed 10 times.After that 100 ml beaker is put on the weigher and the weight value is set to zero. This calibration is made for measuring only net weight of added water without beaker.By the help of pipette, 1 ml of pure water is added into beaker and weight value is read from the weigher.At each stage, weight value is set to zero and then water is added.Same procedure is repeated for 50 times. Repeating the measurements increase the accuracy of the results. In the second part of the experiment,the same procedure in the first part is repeated, but at that time volume of added water is 10 ml. Again, weight value of beaker is set to zero and by using a pipette, 10 ml of pure water is poured into the beaker and the weight value is recorded. After that weight value is set zero and 10 ml water is added again,the same procedure is repeated for 30 times. By using these experimental results arithmetic mean,standard deviation and variance of results are calculated and Gaussian distribution curves are drawn for first and second part of the experiment.In the experiment large number of replicate analyses is performed,maybe some random or systematic errors can be made.To see the reliability of the results,there are some tests that can be appled at certaion confidence levels.To see is there any data that must be rejected,Q test is applied at 95% confidence level. In part A no data is rejected ,while in the part b one of is rejected. And there is another statistical test which named as F test, for comparing measurement precision and for determining whether there is an important difference between two methods. Lastly T test is applied to determine the confidence limits for 90%, 95% and 99% confidence levels. Finally, the error sources are tried to be defined at the end of all these works.
