is 4.0 g. Find the length of the string. 2. (15 pts) A bat ﬂies toward a wall, emitting a steady sound of frequency 23.0 kHz.
The sound from the bat reﬂects off a wall, and back to the bat, so that the bat
hears a beat frequency of 150 Hz. What is the speed of the bat? Take the speed
of sound to be 344 m/s. 3. (10 pts) An ideal polyatomic gas sample has a volume of 3.0 m3, a pressure of
1.50 atm, and a temperature of 20° C. It is then compressed rapidly, so that no
heat is exchanged between the gas and its environment. After the compression,
its temperature is now 90° C. Find the pressure and volume of the gas. 4. (15 pts) A 3.00 mol sample of an ideal diatomic gas goes through the cycle shown
in the diagram. At point A, the gas is at a pressure of 1.10 atm, and the
temperature is 310 K. At point B, the gas pressure is 1.80 atm, and the
temperature is 750 K. The process from A to B is a straight line. In the process
from B to C, the gas is isothermally expanded. Finally, the process from C to A
occurs at constant pressure. Find the heat absorbed by the gas during each part of
the cycle. Note: It may be useful to calculate the volume at one or more points.
Also, the value of the universal gas constant R is 8.31 J/mol'K, and 1 atm = 1.01 x
