Tran 1 Vincent Tran Ms. Isaacs English Honors 9, Period 6 7 April 2009 Career Essay “Children are one third of our population and all of our future” (Select Panel for the Promotion of Child Health, 1981). This says that children are our future, so if all the children were too die of disease and other health problems we would have no future. That’s where pediatricians come in. Pediatricians are doctors who specialize in patients age 17 and under. This makes the job of a pediatrician very important, even though it is a very long and hard path, it is very rewarding. Not only rewarding morally, but also in pay. This isn’t the only reason why being a Pediatrician is great though. It is fulfilling knowing that they are helping keep the children of the society alive and healthy, because they are keeping the future alive and healthy. Patients could be the future Obamas or Bill Gates of their generation. The path of becoming of Pediatrician may be difficult, but it is definitely rewarding. (Journal of the American Academy of Pediatricians). Pediatrics is fairly young compared to the rest of medical specialties, it is two centuries old. It received its name from the Greek language, it means healer of children. This study developed over time, the medical needs of children and infants were provided by families, midwives, and friends. He started a branch of medicine which would become a crucial study for human life (AAP). “Pediatrics is a highly flexible specialty offering an extraordinary number of career options” says the AAP. A career in pediatrics also pays a great sum. The average salary of a pediatrician is 136,900 a year which is well worth it considering the amount of duties a Pediatrician has to do in a day. All of these activities are of almost equal importance. It is due to the fact that most of these duties help maintain a child healthy and save their lives. The
