View Full Document Right Arrow Icon Kids Helpline is a counselling service for Australian children and young people aged between 5 and 25 years. Kids Helpline commenced operation in 1991. The most common concern is family relationships, child or young person contacts Kids Helpline, they will speak directly with a counsellor.   Before being connected to a counsellor, callers will be asked to listen to a recorded message which relays important information about privacy and disclosure. Find out more about this a young person contacts Kids Helpline via email or web, they will be asked to read through a similar online statement. Kids that call Kids Helpline can talk to a counsellor for as long as they need to. Some calls only last a few minutes and others can last up to an hour. Young people with severe, complex and long standing issues often benefit from ongoing counselling. This usually involves speaking predominantly with one or two counsellors who become familiar with their concerns. Calls from the Optus network, including Virgin, are free and will not be listed on your phone bill Calls from other network providers may cost money and be listed on your phone bill Remember kids can always call from a home phone or a payphone for free. Young people can access Kids Helpline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
