Kids Helpline is a counselling service offered to young Australians aged between 5 and 25 years, through phone calls, emailing and online chat services. All young people who contact Kids Helpline speak directly to a tertiary qualified counsellor, who have also undergone additional training in order to counsel children and young people. Once a young person approaches the call centre, web chat or email and before they are connected with a counsellor, they are asked to read/listen to a recorded message that informs the child of important privacy information. …? Through their sponsor Optus, Kids Helpline have made it possible for calls from phones under the Optus network to be cost-free for young people, also ensuring anonymity

Kids helpline have also ensured that any child or young person can speak to a counsellor at anytime, with the call centre open 24/7. All callers can remain anonymous if they wish and all calls Kids are able to speak with a counsellor for as long as they need to, with some calls lasting from a few minutes to up to an hour. Kids are also able to elect whether they would prefer a male or female counsellor. Some kids suffering with severe, longstanding or complex issues the service offters ongoing counselling, that usually involves speaking with mainly one or two counsellors that the child has previously dealt with....
