Client PCs require this to access resources through a host name. Active Directory uses DNS to store service location info. Active Directory Schema : contains formal definitions of every object created in an Active Directory forest also contains formal definitions of every attribute that can exist in an Active Directory object. Class related to the system cannot be modified on the domain controller. Active Directory is a database of all recourses Houses in for about all network resources (I.E Servers, printers & user accounts. The top of Active Directory is called: A Forrest The forest holds all: objects, OU’s (organizational units), Domains & attributes At the heart of Active Directory is the Domain (.com, .org, .net, .gov, & ,edu): a fundamental container of: users, groups, printers, PCs , & all resources. In a Domain all resources are called: objects (I.E printers= printer objects , computer objects) Peer- to- peer : a type of networking in which each PC can also be a client to other PCs & also act as a server. Server based : a type of networking in which that requires a server to provided services & resources & to manages & controls access to those services & resources. In Active Directory all servers are the same no 1 is higher than the other Replication : is the process of sharing information so as to ensure consistency between redundant resources. To share info between 1 server to another; in the same Active Directory & the same Domain. I.E all info on serve A will be on server B –> At setup set Replication all the time. Ever Domain needs at least 1 Server ; can have more. Schema : objects in a database & their classes & attributes. In Active Directory each kind of object is defined by Schema .
