(2) Simple and Fractional Distillation Distillation Lab Write-up 1. Calculate the percent composition for BOTH simple and fractional distillations. 2. Put both simple and fractional distillation data on the same graph paper. Please use graph paper only (or Excel plots). This means that you have two graphs on the same piece of graph paper. (See lab manual, pp.10, Section C) 3. Percent composition calculations are as follows:(abbreviation: MeOH = methanol) %MeOH = [vol. MeOH distilled)/(vol. mixture)]*100 %water = 100 - %MeOH Note: Please report values to the nearest tenth of a percent. 4. If your fractional distillation was better than the simple distillation, you do not need to address the question from Section D, #3. 5. Please answer all the questions in Section E as well as all the additional questions in Pavia. (lab manual, pp.11) Hints for Distillation Apparatus setup 1. There's something called gravity.
