Term becomes heavily politicized in 60’s and 70’s. to be an activist ANYONE OF MEXICAN AMEICAN BACKGROUND Mexican American – first large generation of Mexicans in America. Children of immigrants, combining background with new cultures Mexican – generic term for anyone of Mexican descent Mexicano – immigrants from mexico use to show Mexican backgrounnd Hispano – 19 th century after us takes cali Latino (Salvadorian, Cuban American, Puerto Rican) – pertaining to Latin ameican nations Tejano – someone of Mexican/Texan background Californio – 19 th century after us takes cali, for someone who came from this area Anglo – popularly used to refer to white people Euro-American – another term for white people Hispanic – created by census bearuau to make a chicano grouping HOW EXTENSIVE IS U.S. LATINO POPULATION?
