CHICANO STUDIES 1A HANDOUT #3 General Santa Ana Texas Revolution of 1836 Manifest Destiny U.S.-Mexico War (1846-48) San Patricio Brigade – irish immigrants who had to U.S. and joined military at the time of the war. Many of these people had come into texas, northern mex, and became shocked at unfortunate extreme measures of soldiers that destroyed catholic churches in mexico. ---abandon positions in US military, and fight for Mexico Los Niños Heroes – refers to when Us military forces move into Mexico city… one of the last oppositions they face is a group of young children cadets, housing in mex city. Fortify themselves in a building, and represent the last opposition to US troops. Some commit suicide by jumping off the bulding, instead of being taken over. . martyrs “From the Halls of Montezuma” – refers to marine anthem, comes from US troops entering the halls of Montezuma (valley of Mexico), comes from the 1840’s Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848) – ends the war, named after place the treaty
