Unformatted text preview: Jonathan Alter, Election 2008: The Stakes Jonathan Alter began his lecture by discussing what lies in the balance of the 2008 Presidential Election. In many ways, what is at stake is the reputation of America, and the way in which the rest of the world sees us. Alter explained how among other things, this election is a chance to fix what he calls Americas original sin, a constitution that at one time legalized slavery. But beyond whats at stake, the lecture was truly just a rally for Barack Obama as Alter went on for a good thirty minutes about what makes Obama the superior candidate, and what makes John McCain the weaker.
