Intro to Psychology What do you think when you think about psychology? - The study of brain, mind, and behavior - The Study of the brain: - Electro-chemical reactions and cell actions - The structures and functions of the brain - The study of behavior: - Very broad term - Driving a car - Playing Basketball - Brain activity - Anything that can be observed or measured - The Study of mind: - unobservable mental states and processes that can be inferred from behavior - The mind is powerful enough to bias one’s perception of reality The History of Psychology: some of the big names, ideas, and movement throughout the history of psychology The Roots of Psychology - long ago, people had desires ad though (eg. to hunt) - Not long after that, people though about thinking - Psychology has been around informally since the dawn of thought, but only in the past 100 years has it became a scientific investigation - Why are you taking this course?
