What is Herbicide Resistance?         HERBICIDE RESISTANCE: the  inherent  ability of  a plant to  survive and reproduce  following  exposure to a dose of herbicide  normally lethal to  the wild type.  In a plant, resistance may be  naturally occurring or induced by such techniques  as genetic engineering or selection of variants  produced by tissue culture of mutagenesis  (WSSA).      “A herbicide that once controlled a  particular weed no longer works!!!”

Resistance is NOT: Late flushes of weed species  –  i.e. nightshade Tolerant weed species Unfavorable weather conditions Stress would reduce control of all weed species Poor herbicide applications or mistakes Skips or streaking Wrong herbicide or wrong rate Mixing mistakes – not adding adjuvant or herbicide to  tank
