Chapter 6 Reflection Essay A) Describe the idea of Eugenics , as proposed by Francis Galton. The father of behavioral genetics, Francis Galton, studied mental inheritance and individual differences, considering the heritability of those individual differences. E ugenics was his fundamental interest of many, and first coined the term “ eugenics ” in 1883. Galton believed that eminence, or superiority, was a function of heredity and not one of opportunity. Because of this belief, his overall goal was to encourage the birth of more eminent individuals into society. In efforts to breed an improved human race, he also discouraged the reproduction of those that are “less fit”.
