Lab Report # 4 Bo Sang Yun (lab partner : Tae Sung Kim) 1. Introduction In this experiment we will perform four types of collisions with gliders on leveled air track; two totally elastic, one partially elastic, one totally inelastic collisions. We set different conditions for each collision and see the results of their collisions. The purpose of this experiment is to prove the law of conservation of linear momentum that in any collision where no external forces are at work, the total linear momentum is same after the collision as before. We will also measure to see if total kinetic energy is conserved or not. 2. Conclusion Summary : We observe two gliders colliding each other on a leveled air track. There is no external force on these gliders since the air track is leveled. It is observed that the total momentum and total kinetic energy of the first two experiments, which were two totally elastic collisions, were conserved. However, for third(partially elastic) and fourth(totally inelastic) experiment, both total kinetic energies were not conserved while both total momentums were conserved. Specifics
