SIGN EXPERIMENT Balancing EXPERIMENT INSTRUCTOR GRADE   MAX. 10 Introduction Unbalance in rotating machinery has become an increasingly important problem in the development of high speed rotating machinery where reliability is a significant consideration. Unbalance is the most common source of vibration in the rotating components of machines. Balancing of machines is necessary to avoid fatigue failure in associated structures, to prevent excessive loading of bearings, and to increase the useful life of a machine. By definition balancing is the process of attempting to improve the mass distribution of a rotor so that it rotates in its bearing without uncompensated centrifugal forces. The purpose of the experiment: How to measure the amount of unbalance in a rotor and how to determine if the rotor needs balancing. It then outlines a basic balancing procedure, using balancing terms based on those used in international publications, particularly ISO Standard 1940. The experiment equipments:
