THE PURPOSE OF THE EXPERIMENT: The aim of the experiment is to calculate the stress values on a thin-walled pressure vessel and compare these results with theoretical ones. THE THEORY: Strain Gage: Strain gage is measuring the strain with using the relationship between the electrical resistance and deformation. CALCULATION (THEORETICAL): The axial stress component, σ a , can be calculated using the static equilibrium of the side cap: The tangential stress component, σ t , can be calculated in a similar way: THE EXPERIMENT: A manual hydraulic pump is used to pressurize the cylindrical tank whose dimensions are given below. This tank is equipped with a manometer to measure the actual pressure value.
