Transgenic Mice are mice that have had DNA or genes introduced into their cells artificially. Transgenics& Knockouts 11/1/10 Knock-Out Mouse The first knockout mice were produced by Mario R. Capecchi, Martin Evans and Oliver Smithies in 19871989, for which they were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2007. Genetically engineered mouse Has had one or more of its genes made inoperable through a gene knockout. Introduces an artificial mutation that abolishes activity of the preselected gene (No functional gene product is made). Must create targeting construct that contains a mutation in the target gene....
