Shayna Russell Under the Feet of Jesus (pg 130-176) Under the Feet of Jesus serves as an in depth character study of Estrella, Perfecto, Petra and Alejo. Each of the four characters’ interactions and views of the barn seem to mimic their interactions and views on life itself. Estrella – She is expected to work on tearing the barn down with Perfecto. Perfecto asks her, but in a manner that puts a lot of unwarranted stress on a 13-year-old girl. However, she agrees and embraces it as safe topic. At first hesitant, feeling it to be man’s work, she puts her whole heart into it knowing it will better the family. After going at the medical clinic with a crowbar, the first thing she says in the car is, “We’ll tear the barn down starting tomorrow, right Perfecto?” (153) As her mother thought, “There was no stopping Estrella, no harnessing the climate of circumstances, no holding back the will of her body.” (pg 164) she had a zeal for living in the moment of life, whether it be getting the
