SEED plants! (1-5 are derived traits) Earth dried up Seeds & Pollen allowed plants to inhabit drier habitats 1. Seed : consists of embryo and its food supply (acutally made of female gametophyte tissue) protected by a seed coat to withstand drought 2. Pollen grains are male gametophytes enclosed in a protective wall. Once it reaches ovule, it forms a pollen tube that discharges sperm to ovule Plant sperm is no longer motile -> no longer depends on water to get to egg Pollen travel by wind ( gymnosperms ) or by specific pollinators ( angiosperms )
