Our attention is almost always divided people overall are slower to respond while talking on a cell phone and driving Biological Rhythms and Sleep -occurs on a 24 or 25 hour cycle- we have electricity so our bodies no longer follow the sun -can be modified by artificial factors -Sleep Stages: about every 90 mins we pass through a cycle of 5 distinct sleep stages awake but relaxed- alpha waves stage 1- hallucinations, light sleep S tage 2- sensation of falling or floating, lasts about 20 mins stage 3 and 4- deepest sleep, brain activity significantly slows down, large delta waves, still process information stage 5: REM sleep- rapid eye movements, lasts about 10 mins, vivid dreams Sleep deprivation 1. fatigue and subsequent death 2. impaired concentration 3. emotional irritability 4. depressed immune system Sleep theories
