University of California, Berkeley Spring 2010 EE 42/100 Prof. A. Niknejad Problem Set 4 Due Friday (5pm), October 1, 2010 1. Rearrange and wire up the circuit blocks below to amplify the voltage signal from the microphone before it is fed into a speaker. You may use more than one ground symbol in your schematic. Hint: Remember to ground the shield of the coaxial cable to allow the current a return path . 2. Assume that in the configuration below A v = 60 dB, R s = 5 , R L = 50k and R out = 100 . (a) Specify R in so that the amplifier will have an effective gain v L /v s = 997.007 (round your answer to the nearest k ). (b) Give the supply (rail) voltage required to support a linear input dynamic range of ±10 mV (round your answer to the nearest Volt). (c) Can you find a resistance R in so that the amplifier will have an effective gain v L /v s = A v = 60 dB. Explain your answer in a few lines. 3.
