Date Performed: Sept. 13 th , 2010 Instruct Report turn in:Sept 20 th , 2010 Lab Report Extraction of Spinach Abstract The main purpose of this lab is to find out the different layers of the spinach and find out their polarities. To do so, we took the spinach in which we grinded the spinach with hexanes/acetone and salt. Then we took little amount of the mixture in our centrifuge tube and centrifuges it couple of minutes. Then we took the supernatant layer out of the centrifuge tube and putted in the test tube for our further experiment. Later we run the alumina column to different layers like orange, yellow, etc in different test tubes. Then we did the TLC plate with all the test tube solutions to calculate the Rf value, so that we can find out polarity of different layers. Discussion
