But at the same time the one drop rule was eventually embraced by the black community. Because if people took a closer look into their ethnic backgrounds they would like find a combination of black, white, native American and various other nationalities . American is unlike many other places in the world that defines mixed race into separate categories. It sets a very rigid set of racial boxes people fit into. The one drop rule forced all shades of mixed people into the black community. The rule was design to maintain Jim Crow and reinforce a sexual double standard for white men.
