1 ECE 3710 Circuits and Electronics Assignment #1 Solution Problem 1. Create a table for the following circuit. For each case below, fill-in the following information: The calculated or given value for each variable in the figure. o There are 7 total variables, some of which will be givens in each case. o e.g., V s = 9 V, I 2 = -1.5 A, R 2 = 2 , The power dissipated or supplied by each element. o There are 4 such elements. o Remember, dissipated power should be positive and supplied power should be negative. The voltage across each resistor. o For consistency, use the polarity shown. o For example, the voltage across R 1 is called V R1 in case 2, with the higher voltage at the left of the resistor. I 3 2 + - If a particular case is impossible, leave that row blank in the table, and provide a brief rationale for this omission. If multiple answers exist due to insufficient information, just choose one particular answer. Case 1: V s = 12 V, R 1 = 50 , R 2 = 100 , R 3 = 100 . Case 2: V s = 1.5 V, V R1 = 0.2 V, I 2 = -1 mA, I 3 = -0.5 mA. Case 3: V s = 9 V, R 3 = 500 , R3 dissipates at least 95 % of the power. Case 4: I 2 = 10 mA, I 3 = 2.5 mA, R 2 = 75 . Case 5: I 1 = 1 A, I 2 = -2 A, I 3 = 1 A. Case 6: V s dissipates 20 W. Case 7: V s supplies 10 W, R 1 = R 2 = R 3 , R 1 dissipates 3 W. Case 8: I 1 = 1 mA, V R3 = 0.5 V, R 2 = R 3 , all R’s dissipate the same power. Answers: See the .xls table for equations and solutions.
