Slide 1: 1. Our presentation is about Charlotte Beers at Ogilvy and Mather. Ogilvy and Mather is an advertising company which was founded in 1948 by David Ogilvy, an Englishman. 2. It was world’s sixth largest advertising company. 3. Some of the problems at Ogilvy and Mather are a. After retirement of founder David, next four CEO failed to operate the company with David’s strategy. David was quirky and they were straight- forward, middle-of-the-road New Yorkers. b. Multi-local structures kind local independency c. Company’s structure was not optimized to serve multinational clients. d. Managers were internally focused. e. Lack of inspirational leaders since the retirement of the founder. f. Strong managerial and financial discipline imposed after 1989 WPP acquisition 4. Charlotte Beers was appointed as CEO and Chairman in April of 1992. To the company, she was an outsider and first woman to ever lead Ogilvy. At first, people resisted her leadership but through her approach she quickly made impression with Ogilvy insiders. a.
