Lesson Overview Lesson Author:   Chelsea Valentine Grade Level:   3 rd  Grade Subject Area:   English – Reading/Writing Short Description: This lesson is designed to help students understand fiction through the discussion of fairy tales, myths, folktales,  legends, and fables.  During this lesson students will identify the author’s purpose and summarize major points in the  plot.  Furthermore, students will use the knowledge they have gain to write their own work of fiction and present it to  the class. Standards State Curriculum Standards met in this lesson: VDOE Curriculum Frameworks Standards 3.2 The student will present brief oral reports.  a) Speak clearly.  b) Use appropriate volume and pitch.  c) Speak at an understandable rate.  d) Organize ideas sequentially or around major points of information.  e) Use grammatically correct language and specific vocabulary to communicate ideas. 3.5 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of fiction.
