NaCl, Sodium Chloride -ate and –ite are oxidized forms (contain oxygen) If it ends in –ide, it is just that element (just sodium and chloride atom) K 2 S · 2H 2 O (Potassium Sulfide Dihydrate) Prefixes: 1 mono- 2 di- 3 tri- 4 tetra- 5 penta- 6 hexa- 7 hepta- 8 octa- 9 nona- 10 deca- K 2 S · 7H 2 O (Potassium Sulfide Heptahydrate) Molecular weight: (2*39) + (1*35) + (14*1) + (7*16) = 239 g/mol Polyatomics- molecules that are covalently bound and form ionic molecules.
