The preparation needs to comply with the regulations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with respect to drinking water . It contains no added substances. Whereas, tap water in most cities contains other substances (i.e. chlorine to destroy harmful organisms, such as bacteria and parasites) 2. The purpose of the adding methylcellulose in the artificial saliva is to help make the solution more viscous or gel-like. 5. If you added the methylcellulose directly to room temperature water, a glue-like layer would form around the powder, and the inside would remain dry. Hence, a more efficient method would be to mix the powder with the glycerin before the addition of water. So that the methyl cellulose particles would be well dispersed, then when you add the water the dissolution of the particles will occur....
