Attention Statement Taken from the CBS channel, on November 12, 2008, Dr. Travis Stork stated that “Childhood Obesity could lead children to a heart attack or stroke by the time they would reach the age of 30”. American society must be aware that Childhood Obesity is a significant risk factor for future health problems. B. Subject Statement Obesity is a problem in America that we have been aware of, however childhood obesity is becoming a huge problem, a high percentage of kids become fat at an early age and that provokes early health problems in child, also future diseases like cancer, diabetes and many others. Today we will discuss the causes, consequences and some of the solutions to this problem that is affecting millions of our children in America. D. Significance of Subject Almost 60% of children in America are obese. This is a very serious epidemic for which every one of us is responsible, and we should all start making changes in our life style if we want to have a better life quality. II. Main Point I A. Subject Statement One of the most significant factors that contribute to Childhood Obesity is parental knowledge. B. Documentation In an interview taken from the CBS channel, during Harry Smith’ show, on April 07, 2009, Dr. Jennifer Ashton stated that “All of us as parents have to lead as example, so we have to show to our children a good role model, then we have to limit portion size and we have to give our children quality foods” C. Parents are the main reason for children to become obese, because children have a tendency to eat the way the parents do. D. Signpost Statement I A problem that is directly linked to parental knowledge is the dietary habits of a child, because parents are the one who can be in control of their children diet. E. Documentation From the journal “Advocating for the Prevention of Childhood Obesity” January, 2009 stated that “Studies have shown that foods to which children are routinely exposed shape preferences and consumption, in addition that children are likely to eat foods that are available and easily accessible to them and to eat greater quantities when larger portions are provided.” F.
