Santiago Rubio Robin Kirkman Experiment 1: Enzymatic Desizing of Cotton August 26, 2010 II. Part 2 A. Observations: 1. The 300-mL desizing bath we created had a brown color to it when all of the chemicals were mixed. 2. After the 30 minute bath, the fabric had some starch particles left over that felt slimy. The color of the fabric also seemed to be somewhat whiter. 3. The initial weight of the fabric was 15.51 g and after the bath it was 13.47g. 4. The fabric felt very soft after the desizing bath. 5. When we did the iodine/KI solution test, the greige fabric absorbed the drop slowly and created a purple color on the fabric. This was probably due to the iodine reacting with the starch. The drop of iodine on the desized fabric caused no color change. 6. For the water drop test, the swatch of greige fabric completely repels the drop. The desized swatch absorbs the water drop at a very slow rate. The bleached swatch completely absorbs the water drop right as it is placed on the fabric. 7.
