Week Three Recap In Week Three we continued our discussion of advertisements and argument and complete some of the building blocks to our first writing project. Discussion Board Recaps – DB # 1 Thesis – this was a controversial discussion board with many opinions and lots of ideas. One clear point that came from this week’s board – the thesis is essential to the essay and serves as the controlling idea of the paper. Suggestions were made that a thesis needed to be the first or last sentence of the draft and that a thesis could be a question. Upon further review we decided a thesis just needed to be at the start of the essay, but did not have a fixed space and that it could not be a question. Furthermore, a thesis needed to be opinion based, it cannot be a fact and it should be concise. Many suggestions were given how to construct a thesis. Some posts suggested it need to be first then the rest of the paper. Other posts suggested it should be last. Some posts like to work with tentative thesis statements and finalize it later. There was no consensus on creating a thesis, beyond that it is difficult to do sometimes. One post even went to so far as to discuss the way other genres make use of thesis.
