The fact that our bodies are made up of mostly oxygen, t hen carbon, hydrogen and nit rogen and this is all that is in all of the foods that we eat is p retty cool. I never thought of it this way, and didn't know that everything that our bodies a re made up of is exactly what is in our food. They are just bonded differently and have d ifferent amount in different sequences. F irst, the carbohydrates. We need to eat carbohydrates because they give us energy. T his energy is in the form of sugars like glucose, fructose and so on. Starches also give us energy from polysaccharides. If we did not eat carbs we would be t ired all of the t ime and have no energy. Next, the fats. We need to have fats in our diet to store our energy. If we did not eat any fats, we would have no where to store our energy so it would basically be lost. I think that fats also help us absorb other nut r ients in our diet as well, not sure on that one though. P rotein, as said in the lecture does "all life's work". proteins help us build muscle, they help us create antibodies. Our hair and nails are made up of protein. Ther are really many m any things that we need protein for and if we do not have it, we would not be able to live. A ll of these foods we ingest become incorporated int our bodies through our cells. Our cells absorb nut rients from the foods we eat and use them to create proteins, etc. I n order for our bodies to work at their best, we must have a balance of all of these things. T his is because they all do different things for our bodies and help us in different ways, even t hough they are all made up of the same 4 elements. ...
