Esteban Peralta 12-12-08 WHH 6 Roman Test Essay Roman Test Essay If Rome had not existed, the world would have been a very different place. Its enduring culture, which includes the Latin language, architecture, and the Roman system of law, influences us immensely in many aspects of everyday life. Without Rome’s legacies, we would be lacking several important features in our daily environment. The first legacy the ancient Romans offer us is the Latin language. This communication system was the language of the Romans, but it remained the language of learning in the West long after the decline of Rome. For example, it was the official language of the Roman Catholic Church into the 20 th century, according to the McDougal Littell World History textbook. The most popular way that we recognize Latin is that it influenced our English language grandiosely. This is so much so that more than half the words in English have a base, or root, in Latin. In addition, the Romanian language was adopted and developed
